Welcome to Terre Di Merino
The monumental olive groves of Terre di Merino are located in the south of Italy on the Gargano peninsula, a stone’s throw from the Adriatic Sea. Along with the region’s characteristic pine, oak and beech trees and Mediterranean shrubs, they form a spectacle of endless shades of green. Since the 1990s, this beautiful area with its incredible biodiversity has been officially recognised and protected as a national park.
In this beautiful natural setting, we and many other families have spent many decades putting our heart and soul into caring for the olive trees. These ancient olive trees, some of which are over 1,000 years, return the favour by yielding countless gorgeous fruits annually, which we then process into olive oil.
During this voyage of discovery through our prized region, we will tell you the story of our majestic green friends and surprise and delight you with the secrets of our olive oil.
Welcome to Gargano!
Cooperative
ADOPT AN OLIVE TREE
At Terre di Merino, we firmly believe in the power of a short chain. Following the inspiring example of many fellow agricultural entrepreneurs, we have opted for and fully stand by the CSA agricultural model, also known as ‘Community Supported Agriculture’. The Italian name for the model literally translates to ‘agriculture supported by the community’.
Our chosen corporate form is that of a cooperative, because this format helps us best support the realisation of our sustainable ideals and ambitions. The cooperative format also gives us the freedom to involve the community democratically and with full transparency, both in the day-to-day affairs of our business and in important innovations.
In more concrete terms, this means that we will be turning one of our best olive groves with countless beautiful olive trees into a cooperative olive grove that will be managed according to the principles of CSA. You will be asked to participate in decisions about crucial issues and be offered opportunities to experience everything going on at the grove and fully enjoy the benefits of this beautiful piece of nature. As for the tiring manual labour of maintaining an olive grove, that will be entrusted to a few very experienced arborists who will continue to monitor the well-being of the trees, the soil health, the surrounding nature and the health of both humans and animals on a daily basis.
